Turn hospital price transparency files into a plain price lookup

Hospitals have to publish their prices, but the files are huge and wildly inconsistent, and nobody can actually read them. The GAO says inconsistent formats and incomplete data have blocked comparisons across hospitals. Build an open-source tool that turns those files into something a person can search: one service, one zip code, real prices side by side.

A solution must include

  1. Parses the CMS standard hospital price file format (CSV and JSON)
  2. Ingests at least 25 hospitals across at least 3 states
  3. Search by procedure (CPT/HCPCS or plain-language name) and zip code
  4. Shows cash price and at least one negotiated rate per hospital, with the source file date
  5. Flags files that fail to parse or are missing required fields
  6. Open-source license, with instructions to add more hospitals

How it’s verified: Public repo plus a live demo; A reviewer spot-checks 10 prices against the original hospital files.
