Find every US water utility’s lead pipe inventory in one directory

Water utilities had to publish lead service line inventories by October 2024, and over 12,000 found lead lines. Only a fraction made interactive maps; the rest are buried PDFs on town websites. Build a directory where people type their address or utility and land on the official inventory.

A solution must include

  1. Covers at least the 100 largest US water systems, plus a way to add more
  2. Each entry links directly to the utility’s official inventory or map
  3. Notes the format (interactive map, searchable table, PDF) and last-checked date
  4. Explains what “unknown material” means with EPA sources
  5. Open data export
