Test whether appliance makers really sell the spare parts UK law says they must

Since July 2021, makers of washing machines, dishwashers, fridges and TVs must keep certain spare parts available for 7 to 10 years, and some parts must be sold to ordinary consumers. Nobody publicly checks whether that actually happens. Run a fair audit that anyone could repeat.

A solution must include

  1. At least 10 manufacturers and 30 specific parts checked
  2. For each part: can a consumer buy it, price, delivery time, and where it was checked
  3. Includes parts the rules say consumers should be able to buy (for example door seals, hinges, drain filters)
  4. Method written up so anyone could repeat it
  5. Results published as an open dataset plus a short summary
