Check a secondhand car, crib or gadget for recalls in one search

Millions of recalled vehicles are still on the road unrepaired, and recalled infant products linked to deaths have turned up on resale marketplaces. Recall data is split across NHTSA, CPSC, FDA and USDA. Build a free checker where a secondhand buyer types a VIN, brand or model and sees every relevant recall from the official sources.

A solution must include

  1. Uses official NHTSA (VIN lookup) and CPSC recall APIs or data
  2. Search by VIN, brand, model or product name
  3. Shows hazard, remedy, and the official recall link for each match
  4. Clear “no match is not a guarantee” message
  5. Open-source code

How it’s verified: Live tool plus repo; Test with 5 known recalls (including Rock ’n Play and a vehicle VIN) and show they surface.
